Encouraged to paint something from my subconscious in a class I took, this piece started out as a painting of a blue and grey rock that I collected from the shore in Leland MI.  When I realized it was too literal, I loosened up , took my palette knife and swirled the paint around and continued painting with very little thought, until I finished with some of the smaller details.  I found it interesting that a lone figure emerged with a sort of echo of her image floating behind her, surrounded by complex and simple shapes.
