Across from my old art studio on the second floor of an old bank building in Villa Park, was a dance studio that besides dance classes,  rented out the space for various occasions.  When I heard a party was happening across the foyer and hall, I followed the sounds to the dance studio and on seeing the colorful scene, asked if I could take some pictures.  They were celebrating a young ladies Quinceanera with a room full of relatives and friends and happy music.   I saw this little girl resting her head on her mother, and thought this scene really captured the sweet intimate relationship between mother and daughter.

Because of the predominant blues in the scene, I created the whole image in a monochromatic  blue palette, these colors giving it a  very contemplative feel.    I was also inspired to paint this scene by the draping and textures of the  fabric,  alluding back to my  love of ruching, cartridge pleating, gathering, and pleating fabrics into garments and accessories.
