Splatter Series

During my painting week in New Buffalo I did some experimenting with watercolor.  I would make a large puddle of pigment and water, and splash, pour, or flick the pigment onto the paper.  With a few puddles of color on paper, I used a hairdryer to encourage the wet paint to randomly expand, swirl, and skitter into jagged lines.  Experimenting with warm and cool colors, using different angles to dry with the hair dryer, and controlling the amount of pigment on the paper, I was able to create a series of paintings that depicted the seasons.  This piece with it’s cool colors and  angular movement harkening possibly to a frozen object, is representing “Winter”.
