For the cover art for the book “One Thousand and One Tears” that I illustrated for a friend who adopted a child, I chose a close up view of the “birth” mom, where you are focused on her eye and her cheek where her tears rolled down. The motif at the bottom was influenced by Suzhou embroidery found on royal chinese robes that represented the sea- I envisioned a body of water created from the tears that where shed for the love of this child- as many as one thousand and one tears or more.
