HAND SERIES

This piece is another painting from my Hand Series which all portray  children being held by an unseen adult. For me , this series is a parable of sorts. Often as we race or stumble through life, what ever our circumstances, we are being held in the safety and security of an unseen loving God, represented by the arms and hand of the adult in the painting.   We all live through moments in life when we really only have a childlike understanding of the greater picture of His story unfolding, unbeknownst to us; our vision is clouded by what we are perceiving and feeling.

To create this piece, I started by sewing a canvas surface together like a quilt top, and stretching in on canvas stretchers bars.  The prints in her dress in the image are actually the gingham fabric pieces sew into those strategic section of the entire stretched canvas.  The image itself in all blues, reflects  sadness and struggle and coldness that life can bring us through.  And yet in spite of these difficult sad landscapes we often traverse, the hand of God, represented in true human flesh color, supports us with strength and often unidentifiable perseverance through these difficulties.
